Congress leader, ex-deputy AG join AAP
CHANDIGARH: Former secretary of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Bhupinder Singh Bittu and former deputy advocate general (DAG) Gulshan Sharma on Thursday joined Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) in the presence of state convener Gurpreet Singh Waraich (Ghuggi).
Welcoming Bittu and Gulshan into party fold, Waraich said people were fed up of the traditional political parties and were joining AAP to weed out corruption, drug menace and other problems from the state.
Bittu had contested Khadoor Sahib assembly by-election as an independent candidate in February and bagged 18,000 votes. He was appointed as Khadoor Sahib block Congresscommittee chief in 1998. He also served as sarpanch of Khawaspur gram panchayat from 2002-2007 and block samiti member from 2008-2013. He was elected as the chairman of Khadoor Sahib market committee from 2003 to 2007.
Whereas, Gulshan's father Balmukand Sharma was five times MLA from Ferozepur city. Gulshan also served the state government as deputy AG at the Punjab and Haryana HC from 1990-92.

Residents of Banyani excited but want no special treatment
CHANDIGARH: After Hooda's Sanghi, it's the turn of Nindana and Banyani, two nondescript villages of Rohtak district, to hog limelight for their association with Haryana's new chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The CM was born in Nindana and his family shifted to Banyani, where he lived till the age of 22.
Residents of Banyani, a village carved out of Barhi Bahu village 600 years ago, expect 'achhe din' for them but only as part of the overall development of Haryana.The CM's younger brother, Gulshan Khattar, has refused even the basic security offered by the Haryana police to the family.
"We are proud of 'veer ji' as his dedication towards humanity has been recognized. He has been given a major responsibility, hence we are looking forward to our growth along with other villages of the state," said Gulshan, who looks after 12 acres of the family land in Banyani. He said, "We have refused security as the feeling of brotherhood is very strong in the village."
