    BIOGRAPHY

    Mike was born in Berwyn, Illinois and came to Wisconsin at age four when his family moved to Appleton. He attended school in Appleton, graduating from Appleton East High School. Following graduation, he attended college at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and eventually the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, from which he graduated in 1990 with a B.A. in English. Mike met my wife Beth, a native of New Berlin, while they were both attending UWM. She also graduated in 1990 with a degree in Secondary Education.

    In the fall of 1990, Beth was hired as an English teacher at Mukwonago High School in Waukesha County and Mike entered the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison. In 1992, based primarily on work he did in the law school’s Legal Assistance to Institutionalized Persons, Mike received the Greater Milwaukee Legal Auxiliary Award, which is awarded for scholarship, character and contribution to the life of the law school. During the summer of 1992 he served a ten-week internship in the State Public Defender’s Office in Appleton. He graduated from the UW Law School in 1993.
