But the consensus, as they mark 50 years of the country’s political independence from Britain in an Olympic year that puts Jamaica in the spotlight, seems to be that its national senior athletic championships and national pride will be hot.

     

    Track-and-field fans and aficionados alike have been whetting their appetites for the men’s m showdown in Jamaica, which they reckoned will be fierier than the equivalent event at the London Olympic Games.

     

    With the National Senior Championships (Olympic trials) taking place from 28 June to 1 July at the National Stadium in Kingston, all eyes are on the domestic contest.


    That is because the race promised to pit the reigning Olympic m champion and world record holder Usain Bolt against his training partner - m world champion Yohan Blake - as well as the former world record holder, Asafa Powell.
