Lucid dreaming is when a person is aware they are dreaming while dreaming. Typically in dreams people are unaware it's not reality. Some people can enter a dream and realize they are dreaming. Lucid dreaming was first recorded by Aristotle who described an instance of self-awareness during a dream. Studies have found lucid dreaming may be common, with a survey finding 77% of over 3, participants having experienced it at least once.
