The trilogy is lauded as a modern, atheist option for parents who quibble with the explicit Christian allegory in the classic Narnia Chronicles by CS Lewis.

“Northern Lights” is the first of three books in the “His Dark Materials” trilogy by the English author Philip Pullman. Volume two is called “The Subtle Knife” and volume three “The Amber Spyglass”.
