    Jose Rizal was born on June 19, 1861 in Calamba, Laguna to Francisco Mercado Rizal and Teodora Alonso. He came from a family of 11 children and both of his parents were well-educated. Rizal showed intellectual abilities at a young age, learning to read and write by age 3 and writing his first poem in Tagalog at age 8.
