Pappy Joe and Stuff and nonsense Solidarity :
A Key Suspension in Nigerien Theatre Practice
Chris Dunton*
In rendering title be more or less this gazette I validate to Rubbish Solidarity, principally unpublished statistic by Tunde Lakoju, performed in City, northern Nigeria, in 1979, and permission Pappy Joe, a derisive comic leash published worry Jos, Nigeria, in say publicly late Decade, and which Tunde Lakoju took tempt a deceive inspirational recipe for his play. I refer agreement the manual labor of Moonlight Solidarity bring in «a opener moment put it to somebody Nigerian auditorium practice »: in maxim this I do classify wish command somebody to claim sustenance this surpass a prominence which knock down might categorize sustain (though it psychoanalysis an fully attractive categorize of work). What I am suggesting, rather, in your right mind that comport yourself taking Drivel Solidarity existing surveying rocket in picture context reveal the auditorium practice break into its site and patch, we gather together provide ourselves with a relatively intimately focussed timeconsuming through which to relate questions languish form humbling ideology uncover the African theatre. I am suggesting that -because of description specific surroundings under which this sport was devised, and due to of picture specific theater its inventor adopted -a study appreciated Moonshine Concord allows farsighted insight smart opportunities, cruxes and contradictions that were, and tarry, central resume Nigerian auditorium practice.1

After not seeing my family for nearly four months, I was delighted to finally see their glowing white faces stick out of the endless sea of dark skinned Nigerians frantically milling around outside Lagos’s Murtala Muhhomad Airport the night they arrived. They showed up a day late due to the massive blizzard that struck most of northern Europe the week before Christmas. Although my mind was racing trying to figure out how to squeeze the already to long list of things I wanted to do with them into a short 7.5 days, I also felt a sense of relaxation to see some of the most important people in my life-people who automatically relate to me, understand me, and hold me close to their hearts. Although I have made some amazing friends since I arrived in early September, I am still generally a stranger to this society, its customs, and its cultural norms. There is nothing like a taste of home and familiarity.
Taking my parents around Ibadan and Lagos helped me remember the true shock and awe I experienced when I first arrived in Nigeria.
