    On March 14, , Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, in the German Empire's Kingdom of W�rttemberg. His parents, Pauline Koch, and Hermann Einstein, were secular Ashkenazi Jews who worked as engineers and salespeople. He had one sister, Maria. Maria was two years younger than Albert. When the family relocated to Munich in , Einstein's father and his uncle Jakob established Elektrotechnische Fabrik J. Einstein & Cie, a business that produced direct-current electrical equipment.
